Kshitij Kunwar

I am a public health researcher in Kathmandu. I work on vaccine clinical trials and non-communicable disease surveillance, mostly as part of hospital-based research teams in Nepal.

Since 2023 my name appears on work from Kanti Children's Hospital, the government paediatric hospital in Maharajgunj, including a phase III vaccine trial run during the COVID-19 pandemic and an oral cholera vaccine trial with the International Vaccine Institute. I also co-author cross-sectional studies with the Central Department of Public Health at Tribhuvan University.

I studied Bachelor in Public Health (Community and Environmental Health) at Tribhuvan University, 2018–2020. My co-authorship spans PLOS One, PLOS Global Public Health, PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases, BMJ Public Health, Vaccine: X, JNMA and the Journal of Nepal Health Research Council.

Knowledge And Attitudes Regarding Infant Feeding and Immunization among Pregnant Women Visiting Antenatal Clinics

Cross-sectional survey of 371 pregnant women at antenatal clinics in eastern Kathmandu (February–March 2025). 56.1% had low knowledge of infant feeding practice, and lower knowledge was concentrated among women under 21 and those without formal schooling. Attitudes were far better than knowledge: 93.2% intended to breastfeed exclusively and 98.4% considered immunization safe.

Parental motivations and perceived barriers to participating in pediatric vaccine clinical trials: Findings from the OCV-S trial in Nepal

Exit interviews with parents at the Kanti Children’s Hospital site of the OCV-S oral cholera vaccine trial. Improving the child’s health was the dominant motive (56.2%), followed by preventing cholera (13.6%); 74.8% described the trial experience as positive. Parents given specific rather than general study information were significantly more positive (AOR 1.97, 95% CI 1.03–3.72). Collaboration: International Vaccine Institute, Korea.
